PLEASE SIGN UP FOR AN AUDITION BEFORE NOVEMBER 19TH SO THAT YOU RECEIVE A PAWS PASS FOR THE MANDATORY WORKSHOPS!
Students who sign up for auditions after November 19th must come see Mrs. Kozik to catch up on missed information. Auditions will close the morning of November 23rd.
What to Prepare On Friday, November 19th there will be a workshop with Mr. Sapp (our vocal director) to learn the music you will be singing for the audition during PAWS. The singing workshop is mandatory. On Thursday December 2nd’s audition, you will sing a cut from Matilda’s musical score acapella (no music). You will be singing by yourself in a group of 10 students. The audition song that you will be singing is located in the audition packet which can be found at the top of this page or by stopping by Mrs. Kozik's room.
On Tuesday, November 23rdthere will be a workshop with Mr. Maaty (our choreographer) to learn the dance you will be performing for the audition during PAWS. The dance workshop is mandatory. On Wednesday December 1st’s audition, you will perform this dance with a group of 10 students (you will not be dancing by yourself). Please wear the appropriate attire (closed-toe shoes, no dresses, movement clothes). If you are a dancer, you may certainly wear dance gear. This workshop will be filmed so that you can refer back to it as you prepare for your audition.
At the acting audition on Tuesday, November 30th, Mrs. Kozik (our director) will provide sides for you to audition with. You will be placed with 2 - 3 other students to perform.
You will automatically receive a PAWS pass for the two workshops when you sign up for auditions. Please make sure to keep that email to show to your PAWS teacher.
Callbacks If needed, callbacks will be held on December 8th in both blocks after school. A callback list will be posted outside of Room G103 by the end of the school day on Friday, December 3rdas well as posted on the www.kmsdrama.org Please note that receiving a callback does not mean you are automatically cast in the show. If you do not receive a callback, this doesn’t mean you won’t be cast!
Cast List The cast list will be posted outside of Room G103 by the end of the school day on Friday, December 12th and also posted on kmsdrama.org. Rehearsal Schedule and Attendance Requirements Rehearsals will generally take place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:25-4:45. There will also be rehearsal every Saturday in February as well as March 12th. Not all cast members will be called to every rehearsal. This show is a major time commitment and failure to attend rehearsals directly impacts your fellow cast members. Therefore, 2 or more unexcused absences, frequent tardiness, and/or failure to fulfill the responsibilities of your role will result in your removal from the production. Please carefully review the calendar provided and clearly indicate your conflicts. This calendar is also available at www.kmsdrama.org
Show Fee Due to the various show needs and costumes needed for Matilda JR, Kilmer’s Drama Department will need to charge a show fee of $50 for participation in the school musical. This fee is only applicable to those who are cast. If this cost should prohibit any student from participating in the production, students should see Mrs. Kozik directly and we will work collaboratively to make this opportunity possible.
Required Materials All cast members will also be asked to provide a binder for their script, score and show materials and information. Cast Members must display their names on the outside of this binder and may decorate it to their liking. Cast members are asked to bring their binder to every rehearsal along with a pencil. We also ask that actors bring homework, reading material, or a silent activity to rehearsal in case of down time.
Parent Support In January, Kilmer MS Drama will be hosting a parent meeting to discuss show scheduling, rehearsal and performance information and demands as well as volunteer opportunities. Please note that every student is required to have one parent volunteer two hours towards show needs and production. This and other important parent information will be discussed at the parent meeting in January.
Additional Information For a character breakdown, the audition music, and the audition sheet (that must be filled out prior to auditions), please download the file at the top of this page.
